TWO LIVES by: Helen Naylor

1.Look at the front cover and observe it. How do you relate the title to the picture?

When I see the title and the picture I think that the book was talking about one boy and one girl, who are in love, but they have got a different lives.

2.Most of the story takes place in Tredonald, Wales. Find information about this coal mining village. With the Industrial Revolution ( 17th and 18th c ) , coal mining, a tiny industry in the 15th century, became a national and international industry. Thus, the 19th century was a century of massive expansion for the coal industry in Wales. But the end of the 20th century brought almost universe closure. Find information about 1984 miners' strike

3.Chapter 1: Two young lives-" Life was not easy for the Thomas family." Why ? ( 3 lines )- Richard Thomas had been killed while fighting in North Africa in 1943. Which war was it ?- In chapter 1 we know that Megan and Huw are good friends. Describe the moment.

Because, he works in a miner for a six weeks and he doesn’t like it very much, ant his father don’t work, and they need the money. His dad always drink a lot, and when they arrive at home, they haven’t got any food or drink for eating.

- Richard was killed in a World War II.

- They were very good friends, but, in the time, when Huw was started in the miner, the

Megan’s dad, don’t like that Huw and Megan have been friends.

4. Chapter 2 : The friendship continues

-In this chapter Megan and Huw take a decision about their relationship. Explain it. Why do they take it?

In this Chapter, Megan was a Huw’s girlfriend, because they are in love and, they don’t know because they can’t be together.
They do that because they are in love, and they think that the Megan’s dad will changed the decisions, but it’s important that they don’t tell that to anyone
.

5. Chapter 3: Romance grows

-"This Saturday was going to be a night to remember." ( page 15 )

Why?

Because they go to the cinema and in these place, anyone see they, and they can kiss if they want or something.

6. Chapter 4: Death at the mine / Leaving Tredonald

-After the first four chapters, how would you define the relationship between Huw and his brother?

I think that their relationship was good, because this is the good think that his family has got.

7. Chapter 6: A surprise find

-Megan finds the letters Huw had sent her 50 years before, in 1946 and 1947. Imagine Meg's father was still alive and that you are Meg. What would you tell him?

If I was Megan and I find the letters, I told to my dad, and say to he that why did he do? And then I will told that my live wasn’t good if Huw was in Megan’s live.

- In the first letter Meg asks Huw: " Do you think he wanted me to find them when it was to late?". What dou you think?

I think that it’s probably because Megan’s father don’t like How, and its probably do for that.
Because his dad will the best men of his daughter and he probably think that Huw wasn’t the best.

8. Chapter 7: Time to decide

-Before leaving Tredonald, Huw told Megan : "in a year ...I'll come back here and we'll get married..." ( pag.23 ); but things turned out to be completely different. Why ?

Because the Megan’s father was separated his lives, and now, Huw was divorced and have got a boy (Mike), and Megan have got a girl (Beth) whit Huw, but he doesn’t know, and they continued her live in Wales.

9. Chapter 8: Telling Beth

-Find some information about Cardiff ( 3 lines ) and post a picture

Cardiff is the capital of Galius and the best place of this, Is the centre of the business, education, sport, tourism, culture, good cite of communication, and govern. Take place in South of Glamorgan, in the bay of Bristol, and near the frontier of Inglaterra.

10. Chapter 10: Writing back

-Meg is about to get married. In spite of that, she lets Huw visit her and her daughter. Why does she act that way? Do you think she does it for Beth or for herself?

She act in these way because she read the letters and she remember they love.
I think Huw does that for they three, for know her daughter and see Megan after fifty years.

11. Chapter 11 : A new star

-What's Meg's present job?

Megan’s job was in the old miner, and she was the guide of the old miner.

-Why does Huw tell her " you always were a fighter, weren't you?" ? ( pag.48 )

Because, he remember that Megan was a very fighter girl, and she knows

-Do you think two people can still be in love after 50 years without seeing each other?

I think that it’s possible but, it’s not the same, because there was 50 years in the middle, and they didn’t see in much years ago.
But its probably if in these 50 years ago, they were in love.

12. Chapter 17 : Time to go

-Imagie the conversation between Paul and Megan the moment she tells him that she is still in love with Huw. Write it down

These conversation was a particularly part of the book because, it’s important moment that Megan tell her love with Paul, and I think that Paul was receive a big surprise or not, it deepens on the Paul’s thinks about her and Huw.

13. Did you like the book? Why ? What did you learn by reading it?

I like this book because, I like the romantic history, but I like very much if I knew that history was a real succeed.
In this book I learn a lot of vocabulary that I unknown there, and I’m fine to learn more about English vocabulary or something.

DESCRIPTION

I'm going to write about my best friend, Jessica. I knew her since we were 3 years old, when we were in Estartit, for the summer holidays, and our parents, presented us.

She is not very tall, and thin but it dosen't matter. She has got long, straight, and brown hair, and a brown eyes too. I think that she is attractive, extrovert, and is a kind person.

When I was a child, I thought that Jessica was a know-all girl, but in a time, I think that she's a fantastic person, and she was very patient with me.

She has got a funny character, and she is a little crazy person, but I'm happy to know her.

In conclusion, Jessica, is my best friend, and that's all, in spite of the distance, but I feel like if I had one more sister.
